Mobius Loop Exhibition Concept Model

Architectural Concept Model: The Möbius Loop Building

    The Brief

BT and Quatreus approached us with a fascinating, forward-thinking brief. They needed a striking architectural centerpiece for BT’s technology exhibition suite designed to showcase the future of construction technology and the boundary-pushing capabilities of structural 3D printing.

The architectural concept was based on a Möbius loop—a complex, continuous mathematical topology where the floors, walls, and ceilings seamlessly transition into one single, unbroken surface. Transforming this complex digital concept into a flawless, physical 1:100 scale model required us to completely rethink traditional fabrication methods.

    The Funky Lemon Solution

Because the building's geometry defies standard straight-line construction, we developed a specialized reverse-engineering and assembly pipeline to bring the continuous loop to life:

    • Digital Decomposition: We began by taking the client's original architectural 3D mesh and digitally slicing the organic form into hundreds of individual, interlocking micro-layers.

    • Laser-Cut Skeletal Matrix: These hundreds of sliced profiles were precision laser-cut from high-grade acrylic sheets. Our team then hand-assembled and stacked this massive matrix of parts, piece by piece, to construct the perfectly accurate, stepped structural skeleton of the building.

    • Seamless Resin Skinned Finish: To erase the stepped layer lines and achieve the smooth, sweeping curves of the continuous Möbius loop, we applied a specialized, sandable resin skin over the entire skeletal structure.

    • Tactile Architecture: The model was finished with a bespoke textured architectural coating. This gives the final piece an authentic, premium rendered-concrete look that perfectly mimics full-scale future construction materials.

    Model Features & Material Specifications

    • Structure: Multi-layered, laser-sliced internal acrylic matrix providing absolute geometric rigidity.

    • Finish: Hand-sculpted composite resin skin with a high-durability, textured architectural matte coating.

    • Presentation: Minimalist presentation base engineered specifically to integrate into BT’s interactive high-tech exhibition environment.
