Why detail is important to an architectural model

The reasoning

The reason our housing development models and architectural models offer unparalleled value for money is because we don’t follow trends or duplicate techniques used by others, we innovate and invent to create a unique approach which leaves others wondering how it’s modelled. To put it simply, this allows us to add much more detail for the same cost.

You may notice that the architectural models you see on our website have a different look to most other model construction techniques adopted by other model making companies. You may also notice that, in most cases, you don’t see close up shots of the models on their websites where our project constructions are viewable in their entire close up glory. This is mainly due to the fact that other model makers don’t want to show where the corners have been cut or the details have been omitted to save on time. One obviously glaring example of this are the walls, fences and other hard landscape details such as block paving and slabs. The taught technique adopted by many see them simply spraying a flat strip of material adding a stipple effect and calling it a wall. Yes, it does represent a wall or fence but it’s not a convincing or informative representation of a wall. You gain little insight or knowledge from a low quality model approach such as this. When we choose to model a fence design we actually make a scale version of the fence design, including vertical planks, horizontal rails, wooden or concrete posts, wood or concrete gravel boards and even trellis topped designs. If you plan to have three different fencing designs across a site why wouldn’t you show these different fence types? We include them all! A sales suite model should inform and excite a potential customer leaving little to the imagination. After all we are presenting the possible buyer a glimpse into the future by modelling a dream home they aspire to live in and raise a family so a housing estate development should be bright, colourful and uplifting and definitely not bland and boring. In a perfect world the buyer wouldn’t need to ask the sales team questions regarding materials used as it would be clear and obvious in an accurately modelled high detail construction.

What do we require to begin designing / constructing your next architectural model?

• A site plan with boundaries and levels across the site
• Topographic and landscaping plan of the site
• Plans and elevations of all buildings to be built
• House/plot material schedule
• Hard and soft landscape material schedule

We understand each project may be at a varying stage of design development and producing a model which would allow you to sell off plan can present more challenges if the full site drawing pack is not available. This doesn’t mean it cannot be done it just means a different approach may be adopted utilising the information available.

No matter what stage you are at with the development please do not hesitate in getting in touch. We have in the past produced architectural models from just Google earth and Google map views. The fully laser cut, recycled card model, which can be seen in the photographs above, was produced using Google earth views of existing buildings which surround the new development.
